Process Engineer

Department: Production
Location: Highland Park, MI

The Process Engineer will have a lead position in a variety of process engineering functions with a focus on successfully launching new products. The primary function is to support operations by developing efficient processes, instructing employees, and managing timelines. This will be accomplished by launching products on schedule with minimal quality defects or delivery delays.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Ensure compliance and complete assigned APQP engineering activities
  •  Evaluate effectiveness of proposed process to ensure optimal efficiency, machine design, cell layout, and safety and ergonomic concerns
  •  Initiate activities to secure and install new equipment or processes
  •  Review product design with respect to materials, quality, function and assembly
  •  Support required pilot builds.
  •  Develop any required work instructions and set-up procedures for new processes
  •  Train operators, supervisors, and maintenance personnel to run new process and equipment
  •  Ensure parts can be completed in station within the required build times.
  •  Apply Lean manufacturing principles (e.g. 5S, value stream mapping, SMED, standardized work methods, etc.) to improve assigned processes
  •  Identify and resolve process improvements that lead to better cycle times, reduced scrap, and reduced labor.
  •   Assists production staff as process expert by utilizing troubleshooting, diagnosis, debugging, and other technical skills to keep production running at peak efficiency
  •  Coordinates with team to create PFMEA’s, operator work instruction, control plans, visual aids, process plan detail and corrective actions
  •  Quoting functions for engineering changes
  •  Acts as engineering representative to customers
  •  Coordinates with other departments to affect a smooth and timely launch
  •   Evaluate preventative maintenance schedules to ensure effectiveness.
  • Works closely with equipment maintenance staff to reduce machine breakdowns

SPECIAL SKILLS, EXPERIENCE OR QUALIFICATIONS (List specific skills required but not defined in Dimensions)

  •   Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent
  •   Ability to lead and manage cross-departmental teams
  •   Project management experience
  •   Working knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  •   Must be comfortable with running and trouble-shooting machinery or has shown aptitude working on mechanical / electrical / pneumatic systems
